Pressure, Blood & Cholesterol

Even if you were not born around 1950-1960, this story may well assist you if you have issues dealing with pressure, or if you have high blood pressure or cholesterol.

Last year I worked with a lady 60+ who was struggling with high blood pressure as well as high cholesterol, but I wasn’t until she developed unstable walking, migraines and nervous system issues like twitching that she became frightened, especially when her doctors began talking of strong medications which may or may not control twitching and unbalanced gait, but which brought even more side effects with them. Her daughter suggested she see me first.
As we worked together, in her first session her body identified the words “Overwhelm” and “Pressure” at age 12. When I asked her what this was about for her, at age 12 she revealed to me the following:
She grew up in Victoria, and between 1961 and 1967 the education department conducted an experiment in order to review the secondary education system and produce The Wyndham Report on how to better our education system.
This experiment basically took the syllabus of 11 year old students and doubled the workload each year until the turned 16, in order to see how they coped. They crammed as much into their schooling as possible. The end result was the government decided not to stack so much into the years of schooling but to add extra years on instead.
As I held the acupressure points we needed to adjust in relation to her 12 year old experiences, I asked my Client” How did that make you feel?” “Just awful” she said “we all felt we had to cope at all costs” “Or what?” I asked, seeking to assist her to process fully. “Or we would fail” she said. “And be viewed how?” I asked. “Oh, as not good enough. As embarrassing by my parents for sure.” “So how did you cope?” I asked “By doing nothing but schoolwork, for all of high school”.
And then she continued to work hard – all her life – holding important positions and running businesses under mammoth pressure, until her body said ‘enough’ and she had to sell.
We worked on relieving the pressure in her limbic brain and her adrenals. Her body began to relax.
Then her body identified a negative belief we needed to reprogram for her. Our clue was the word “Stoical”, which is about putting one step in front of the other, no matter what is going on, and never, ever, stopping to feel or process a feeling.
I shared the meaning with her and asked her “What invisible message did this experience give to you?”.
She thought about it and said “That I need to avoid embarrassment at all costs, and that thinking is everything’.
Her belief was “I can’t think about my feelings, and I can’t feel about my thoughts”. We reprogrammed her to be able to connect to her body sensations and subtle feelings too. A new experience!
In her youth she had disconnected well and truly from all the distressing thoughts and feelings her body-mind had been trying to give her. Why? Why disconnect from ‘danger’ signals your body gives you? Because she could do nothing about it but accept it, full stop. The school wasn’t going to change and her parents weren’t going to alleviate the pressure on her.
As a result she grew up trained to avoid embarrassment at all costs, and to think that ‘thinking is everything’, that thinking can be used for all problem solving, including problems which need action. This is clearly not correct – as some problems are only solved with action, not thinking – but I see this tendency in far, far too many people who get stuck thinking, and can’t act.
She grew up denying and disconnected of her feelings, and with an enormously exaggerated tolerance of pressure in her life. This contributed to her putting up with situations of enormous pressure (emotional, financial, physical, mental, energetic), without even realizing she had choice. She does now, after a few sessions.
In dealing with all the high-pressure issues, most were involving school, class, homework, study and school activities . Clearly her schooling had an enormous impact, all though her life, in ways we don’t intend when we school our children.
After we facilitated her body-mind back into relaxation, and peace, her heart rate, blood pressure and cholesterol began to normalize. I reminded her to tell her GP what we had worked on, and with her GP’s advice, she kept an eye on lowering her medication doses, to avoid being ill from the medication.
She now has normal heart rate, BP and cholesterol, as evidenced on her doctors blood test reports following our sessions. Her learning is to delay answering those who pressure her, in order to gain time to decide if she wants it/will benefit from the choice.
